John James Shannon, Jr. and Hannah Jane Shannon

John James Shannon, Jr. (February 15, 1941 - May 11, 2025) and Hannah Jane Shannon (July 12, 1945 - September 19, 2025) were married for 56 years. Together, they built a life filled with love, kindness, and humor. They found joy in new experiences and comfort in home, family, and good friends.

John was born in Colorado and served in the U.S. Army before beginning a long career with Burlington Northern Railroad as an electronics technician. He was known for his sharp wit, quick mind, and contagious smile. He made friends easily and brought laughter to every gathering.

Hannah was born in Iowa and worked as an administrative assistant, most recently at Sheridan College. Her kindness, creativity, and cheerful spirit brightened the lives of everyone she met.

John and Hannah spent nearly five decades together in Sheridan, Wyoming, and embraced everything the community had to offer.

John loved to hike and camp in the mountains and took many classes at the YMCA. He attended opera screenings at the WYO Theater, basketball games at Sheridan College, and summer concerts in Kendrick Park. One of his favorite pastimes was drinking coffee while talking and joking with his friends.

Hannah enjoyed exploring her family's history and genealogy, and had a talent for sewing, quilting, and scrapbooking. She also found joy in community theater, participating in productions at the Carriage House Theater and with the Young at Heart Players. She was loved by her First Presbyterian Church and book club communities.

Both John and Hannah loved to travel and explore, and were longtime members of the Karz Club, where they enjoyed countless road trips and adventures. Every mile traveled added to an ever-growing collection of photos, laughter, and stories.

John and Hannah are survived by their children: Renee Goyeneche and her husband, Bernard; Rachel Shannon and her husband, Patrick Carr; and Michael Shannon and his wife, Molly Hazelrig. They are also remembered with love by their grandchildren, Isabelle and Nicholas Goyeneche, and Ryan Carr.

John is also survived by his brother, Timothy Shannon, and Hannah by her brother, Leroy Miller.

A joint celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor both John and Hannah. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sheridan YMCA or The Hub.
